Catching up

Took the train to Siena and back yesterday. Siena went bust after the Black Death which killed off two thirds of the population. There was very little building afterwards and so the city still looks more medieval than Florence.

We're returning to Rome tomorrow. We came to Florence on the slow train (100 mph) but decided to go back on the express. Sheila has been shopping without dropping. We climbed to the top of the dome of the cathedral in Florence: 450 steps!

BTW George has behaved most of the time and will have all kinds of stories to tell Ella about Italy.
